A NAPERVILLE BASEMENT AND BATHROOM UPDATE THAT DAZZLES
After remodeling both their kitchen and hall bath with J&J Construction, our Naperville homeowners came back with a special request: They were ready to change up their basement with a fresh, clean, and modern look. At J&J we are always happy to work with our repeat clients on special projects!
Our team not only took this space from a dark, woody environment to a spacious, well-lit area, we also updated its full bathroom. At the end of our project, this family was greeted with a whole new atmosphere – ready for them to add their own touches.
At the outset, this entire area was lined with wood paneling that just made the rooms seem darker. Our design team went to work, helping the homeowners choose new paint, trim, and more. Choices such as Benjamin Moore October Sky paint created a lighter feel in windowless rooms.
After removing the existing paneling, J&J repainted the walls and updated all the doors and wood trim from a dark stain to a crisp white. This immediately brightened everything up, while still keeping the contrast between the walls and trim.
Above, new recessed lighting took the basement out of the shadows, while removing the ceiling grids helped all the rooms feel much more open. New waterproof vinyl flooring is practical and works with any decor.
The bathroom was transformed from a dark woody corner into something much more sophisticated. Our team removed the existing wood paneling, as well as the ceiling planks, immediately helping the room feel larger.
The homeowners chose a Bertch vanity with Quebec style doors, the Dawn semi-gloss finish, and the premium construction package with details such as upgraded cabinet materials and hinges, and soft-close doors and drawers. Topping this, a rich granite top – Uba Tuba is a finely textured granite that features black, gold, gray, and green speckles. It coordinates perfectly with the other bathroom features, adding just the right amount of depth and richness.
Inset into the granite: A Kohler Caxton oval sink, with a Kohler Devonshire Centerset Polished Chrome faucet. We also added a much-needed 30×36 beveled mirror above the vanity. The homeowners also selected a new toilet. Kohler’s Highline Comfort Height model in white also helped lighten up the room’s color scheme.
The shower was also completely updated. After removing the dark tile and old enclosure, J&J installed new glass walls, all new tiles, and luxurious shower fixtures. The shower faucet and handheld spray are from Kohler’s Awaken Series, mounted on Kohler’s HydroRail S Column. The homeowners also selected an upgraded towel bar/handle upgrade on the custom shower glass.
Shower walls are lightly patterned CTI Directions Cream, in the 12×24 size. Matching 2×2 Mosaic tiles were chosen for the shower floor. These also line the shower niche. The shower footrest is also topped with the same contrasting Uba Tuba granite used on the vanity top. The bathroom floors were also finished in the matching 12 x 24 CTI Directions Cream tile.
