IN NAPERVILLE, A SUNROOM ADDITION AND NEW DECK BLEND IN PERFECTLY
When you’re thinking back to a year ago, who would have predicted we’d need not one – but TWO home offices? This is one need that won’t be going away any time soon – and it’s allowed our clients to create some incredible additions to their Chicagoland homes. These new rooms have benefits far beyond simplifying and enhancing daily life – they add value to your home by creating more space.
This Naperville family discovered that their house really needed some more family space – as well as a stylish transition to their outdoor entertaining area. At the same time, they asked that we create a new room and deck that blended seamlessly with both exterior and interior finishing choices. Let’s take a look at their inspiring new sunroom addition, full of ideas for your own new home office or family room!
Our homeowners had always planned for a deck, and the J&J team was able to include it with the new sunroom addition for a total exterior transformation. Get ready for some lofty design touches!
Working with the family, J&J was able to bring in the natural light from every possible angle. Their request for an open feel inspired a room with large windows, Velux skylights, and doors that open directly out to the large new deck.
By removing the existing patio door, we created open access to the home’s kitchen area. This created an easy flow of traffic to the deck and backyard. Benjamin Moore Elephant Gray 2109-50 was chosen for the wall paint. The warm gray brings out the details of the flooring planks, and makes the white trim – chosen to match the rest of the home – look extra crisp.
With sunlight now flooding in, the sunroom is a bright and inviting space. For evening illumination, a chandelier supplies a sophisticated touch to the lofted ceilings. Down below, the flooring choice is both practical and beautiful. Our homeowners selected Luxury Vinyl Plank (LVP) in Dolce Oak color. Waterproof and stain-resistant, this choice looks just like real wood – but there are no worries about spilled beverages, rainy days, or scratches!
The new deck features materials that enhance the overall look and feel of this gathering area. The main flooring is Trex Transcend Havana Gold, a blend of caramel and honey hues. Its warm brown color mimics tropical teak with its natural grain patterns and rich tones. The contrasting border is also a Trex product: Vintage Lantern. This deeply burnished brown helps anchor the white railing posts, black spindles, and white skirting our team installed.
On the exterior, we carefully matched the existing home siding and roofing to create a seamless addition. This is a J&J trademark: We never use a pre-fab box. Our sunrooms are built from scratch and blended into your home from the smallest interior and exterior details. No-one will ever know it was an addition!
