LIGHTING UP A ST. CHARLES HALL BATH

Lighting Up A St. Charles Hall Bath - J&J Construction

The St. Charles homeowners in this Project Spotlight were ready to make some big changes in their home’s two bathrooms. J&J remodeled both spaces – but the looks were so different, we’ve featured them in different blogs!

Here we shifted the color scheme in this guest bathroom to something lighter, made some key changes that helped the space feel roomier, and added touches that created a more functional environment.

The previous configuration, with a shower-tub combo that visually shortened the room, underutilized counter space, a single sink, and lighting that did little to brighten the vanity area, was primed for a change.

One of the biggest: Removing the tub, and converting the spot into a large shower, with new tile walls, fixtures, and a glass door that magically opened up the long narrow room.

The homeowners chose a warm, light neutral for the shower walls and bathroom floor. A tough porcelain tile: Siena Blanco in an 18 x 18 size for the floor, and 12 x 12 for the shower, had just the right amount of graining and texture to keep the space from looking bland.

Inside the shower, a sparkling mosaic tile picked up the colors of the granite countertops and fixtures perfectly. Here, the homeowners selected Virginia Tile’s Bliss linear mosaic style in the color Cappuccino. Made of glass and stone, the random shades and lengths created a loose border that draws the eye upwards. The same selection was used for the shower’s wall niche – providing just enough texture to break up the surrounding wall color and add a gentle focal point at the end of the bath.

The Kohler Devonshire fixtures in Oil Rubbed Bronze are a choice that stands out. The owners chose to add a handheld sprayer unit when they updated. Another subtle, but luxurious detail is the use of Schluter Oil Rubbed Bronze anodized aluminum trim around the shower.

The vanity was replaced with a new Bertch cabinet in their Brindle finish. The warm chestnut is a beautiful contrast to the walls and floor. Topping this, new granite tops and double Kohler sinks make this hall bath easier to use for guests. Kohler fixtures in Rubbed Bronze match the shower and add a fresh, elegant touch to this hard-working area. New mirrors and lighting solve the problem of dark mornings.

We love the magic of good design, and this hall bathroom is quite the transformation! If you’d like to explore a similar look for your home, please contact us today!
