It was the right time to expand the footprint of this Naperville home out into the sunshine! With a sunroom addition and new deck, there’s a whole new feeling of spaciousness and easy elegance. Read on to see how J&J worked with existing colors and materials for a seamless upgrade.
Like many homes, this one had a simple uncovered patio that wasn’t meeting the outdoor entertaining needs of the owners. One positive effect of all the time Chicagoland residents have been spending at home during the pandemic: A renewed appreciation of our seasons, and a desire to simply enjoy our own backyards.
With this new expansion to their floorplan our design team stepped in to ensure everything we built matched perfectly to the cool blue shade of the new exterior siding, and that the new features were tastefully highlighted.
First, the sunroom. The backyard view is now framed by expansive high windows! A vaulted ceiling adds airiness to the room, which lets the sunshine into this relaxing space. The homeowners selected a coordinating blue for the walls: Benjamin Moore Regal in Constellation AF-540. A confident choice of color, it is the perfect counterpart to the exterior paint just outside the patio doors.
On the floors, NuCore Performance Cumberland flooring handles the ins and outs of foot traffic with easy luxury and scratch-proof rigid plank construction. The cool tones of gently weathered wood are the perfect complement to the deep jewel tones of the furniture. Meanwhile, any entertaining mishaps or tracked mud are a breeze to clean up.
Just outside, the new deck adds a whole new dimension to outdoor living. With room to spare for the homeowner’s expansive outdoor seating areas, it’s like a whole new room for the lucky homeowners! J&J used two colors of TREX Transcend to achieve this look. These composite deck boards combine the look of exotic woods with pest, fade, and stain-resistance, and are virtually maintenance-free.
First, the warmer Fire Pit color was used for the main decking. Then, the greyer-toned Vintage Lantern went on the railings and around the deck edges for a contrasting border. Black spindles and white railing posts and skirting completed the look.
With our trademark attention to detail, J&J matched the home’s existing roof and siding to create an invisible transition between the old and new. We think the new addition is simply amazing – what about you?
