Twice the Impact in this Two Bathroom Renovation Project
Renovating two bathrooms in one project is a brave step! At this Aurora, IL residence, the homeowners were ready to make big changes in their master and hall bathrooms. J&J Construction partnered with the couple to create both new rooms – each with a cool, serene take on the latest colorways and materials. The end results? All of the above, now with streamlined efficiency and layouts that work beautifully.
Goals:
At the time of renovation, these bathrooms were serviceable but outdated. Updating the cabinets, bringing a sense of openness to the spaces, maximizing counter space, and bringing in a color scheme of elegant natural tones were key items for the homeowners.
BATHROOM ONE – TEXTURES IN HARMONY
In the hallway bath, we used Benjamin Moore Gray Owl on the walls. This particular shade creates a harmonious blend with the new cabinet finish and shower tiling. On the floors: Tabula Moka 6×36 tile in complementary natural hues – a durable and attractive choice.
Cabinets by Woodharbor with Stockman style doors have a clean look. Their lustrous Sea Clay painted finish highlights the gloss of the new St. Cecelia Light granite countertops to perfection.
The sleek and elegant Kohler Devonshire fixtures and twin Caxton style sinks were chosen by the homeowners. A new Highline White Elongated toilet rounds out the fixture updates.
A new Kohler tub and shower fixtures are now framed with interesting visual textures, thanks to the Foundry26 Oxide tile. Now, the overall impression is of a larger, more elegant bathroom, accented by the owner’s choices of pottery and other accessories with roughly finished appeal.
BATHROOM TWO – ROOM TO RELAX
The Aurora home’s master bath features a vaulted ceiling with a skylight, and this natural lighting informed their choices of light, soothing tones. Case in point: The new Woodharbor cabinets are in the same Stockman style used in the smaller bath, but the choice of the Weathered Silverwood stain kicks off the fresh and contemporary new color story. This bathroom renovation is a complete package!
By removing the bathtub, we were able to change the footprint of this room. Now, the couple has counter space for two, and a luxurious larger shower. In keeping with the open feel of the room, the old stall was transformed with walls of 1/2 “ thick shower glass. Using Zera Annex Silver Matte 12×24 tiles on the walls and Modern Black 2×2 tiles for the floor, we created a gorgeous, low-maintenance, and functional space for the homeowners.
New Kohler fixtures in Polished Chrome included the Alteo Showerhead with Push-Button Diverter, a handheld spray attachment, and a towel hook. A footrest was added using Quartz Orion Galaxy White.
Elsewhere in the bath, the expanded countertops utilized a pair of the same Kohler Caxton sinks used in the hall bath. Walls were finished out in a soft tone from Benjamin Moore: Wickham Gray HC-171. The whites and grays chosen by the homeowners harmonize perfectly with the natural feel of the Tabula Cenere 6×36 tile we installed on the floor. The proportions of the individual tiles from this series evoke wooden planking but are perfect for bathroom environments.
Finishing out the big changes in this master bath are updated light fixtures, mirrors, and a wall storage niche over the toilet. The end result: A spacious, well-designed bath space that’s both enjoyable to use and a problem solver. With more elbow room, space for linens and toiletries, and a serene ambiance, it’s hard to believe this is the same bath!
