A Stylish Sunroom That Does More!
When it was time for more space, this Woodridge family called upon J&J Construction to create a sunroom expansion that checks all the boxes. Sleek and cool, this multi-purpose room features a variety of finishes – each brought out beautifully by an abundance of natural light.
The best room additions are perfect extensions of a current floorplan. Considerations such as the traffic flow of daily living, harmonious color blends, and exteriors that look fresh and updated are all part of our design team’s approach to home renovations.
As you can see here, this room addition not only added square footage – but also allowed the homeowners to bring much more sunshine into their home. At the same time, easy access to the backyard area was maintained, and the patio was left untouched. J&J installed a new roof and siding to match the existing home, ensuring that both old and new merged seamlessly.
Even though a fireplace might not be the first thing that springs to mind when you’re considering a sunroom – they’re becoming a popular choice for Chicagoland residents. If you’re craving more warm and sunny days in your life, this is the ultimate combination! Here, the homeowners chose a custom mantel with a Walnut stain – a pleasing counterpoint to the cool grey tones used in the rest of the room. Convenient outlets were also added above the mantel for accent lighting or TV installation.
Look closely at the tiled fireplace surround, and you can appreciate the natural stone look provided by the marble ledger panels. Rock Ridge Caspian Sea is versatile and packed with visual appeal, featuring natural gray hues with a textured finish that can add character to any room.
On the floors, Amelia Carbon 12×24 tile creates a welcoming atmosphere, while standing up to daily use. With a range of earth tones, this selection highlights the timely process of stone erosion, showcasing the formed layers of sedimentary rock. The variation of patterns is a sly nod to the natural stone look on the fireplace.
One of the best new features in this space is invisible – but oh, what a difference it makes! A Schluter floor heating system not only keeps the tiles barefoot comfortable on chilly days and nights – it’s wireless! Their latest touchscreen programmable thermostat with Wi-Fi connectivity allows the family to control their system from any location on a smartphone or online.
High ceilings and expansive windows deserve a color sweep of something special. The family decided to continue with the classic color schemes of nature, choosing Benjamin Moore Regal in SW7015 Repose Gray for the walls, and SW7004 Snowbound for their ceiling. A crisp and clean line anchors this look, with larger 4-1/4” Colonial baseboards in white balancing out the larger room.
Now, this family can watch the seasons change in comfort in their new space – as well welcoming guests and enjoying backyard access directly from the sunroom. Each interior and exterior element makes this room feel like an old friend, even with the custom new construction!
