A NEW MASTER SUITE AND KITCHEN BLEND BEAUTIFULLY IN THIS HISTORICAL HOME
We’re always delighted when happy clients refer their friends and family to J&J Construction. In this case, a successful bathroom renovation in one home led to a multi-room project in this historic 1926 home.
For this remodeling project, our design team worked closely with the homeowners to preserve the feel of their Aurora house. We created a ground floor master suite addition that included not only a sunny, welcoming bedroom but also a full bath and closet. The homeowners also asked us to remodel the kitchen. In doing so, J&J created rooms that respected the past and utilized modern updates, yielding beautiful results.
In the brand new master bedroom, an abundance of light creates a warm and inviting sanctuary for an older family member. Large windows are set off by trim paint in Benjamin Moore Oxford White. This shade provides a crisp counterpoint to the wall paint: Collingwood OC-28, also from Benjamin Moore. Part of the Off-White Color collection, this warm grey tone provides subtle shifts in color as the light changes throughout the day.
On the floor, Luxury Vinyl Plank Flooring in Perpetual Oak warms it up, providing easy care with a waterproof surface. The rich hues of oak and the natural grain effects are perfect for this 1920s home, blending beautifully with other flooring.
The ensuite master bath may seem vintage at first glance, but every modern convenience is present throughout. Small details like the design of the Kohler Memoirs Classic toilet (K-3986-0) were important as our design team worked with the homeowners to match the historically accurate sink.
In the tub/shower, black and white tile evokes the 1920s – but is thoroughly modern. 3×6 subway tile in Expression Daylight Glossy gains a subtle pop of contrast with Silverado Grout. Borders and trim were enhanced with Midnight Glossy 2×6 Bullnose tile. You’ll see both colors in the Schluter Wall Niche – a popular option that saves space and holds bath-time necessities.
The Kohler Seaforth (K-745-0) tub is a compact soaking design with neutral lines. Finishing off the luxurious new tub/shower is a Kohler Hydrorail-H Bath and Shower System with their Devonshire Showerhead and Forte Handheld spray.
Elsewhere in the bathroom, an ornate beadboard finishes out the details. Using the same colors as the bedroom, it shines in Oxford White with an easy-care semi-gloss finish. On the walls: Collingwood, in eggshell.
Moving on to the kitchen, new cabinets and other updates provide an updated look that still flows with the home’s historical feel. J&J installed plenty of new storage with Woodharbor Breeze cabinets. The sleek Bridgewater door style and Manor Flat drawers shine in Simply White paint.
As in the Master Bath, the small details provide a lot of impact: Just take a look at how the 1-1/2” traditional crown molding installed between cabinet tops and the ceiling elevates the space. A deep, rich Hanstone Quartz color was selected for the countertops: Grigio, a finely grained grey with black veins and light grey spots. A sharp counterpoint to the crisp white cabinets, it’s also echoed in the same tile and grout combination utilized in the shower: Expression Daylight Glossy 3×6 Subway Tile with Silverado Grout.
