In Aurora - Stunning Changes For a Kitchen and Bathrooms
The old kitchen had adequate space, but felt dark – and much smaller than it really was. The first goal was to bring the room into a brighter, lighter, place. The homeowners also wanted to replace their hardwood flooring, and create a better flow between the kitchen and the family room. Check out how our team made the whole room seem taller and more open!
Cabinets were replaced with new ones from Woodharbor’s Breeze line. Their Stockman door and drawer style is sleek, but not sterile. Changing from the darker-toned wood of the old cabinets to a low-luster Extra White finish had a major impact. To lift the eye upward, we added crown molding in a more modern cove style and installed new lights that were supplied by our homeowners. Instant impression of a higher ceiling: accomplished!
Practical, but light-toned countertops are Hanstone Montauk quartz, with a square edge. The light grey veining helps it stand out just a bit – and makes it a perfect accent to the classic white 3×12 subway tile backsplash.
Island updates are also eye-catching in the new space. We traded out the dark granite for more Montauk quartz and used a different finish on the Woodharbor cabinets. Here, matte-finish Silverwood adds a coastal feel and matches the stainless steel appliances and sink.
The kitchen sink and faucets feature the multifunctional Kohler Simplice faucet in their Vibrant Stainless finish, and a coordinating Sterling sink – their Ludington Undermount Double Equal model. Pulling it all together is Benjamin Moore’s Barren Plain wall paint. It’s a slightly warm grey that enhances the expansive feel of the kitchen.
J&J’s team also installed new hardwood floors in a chestnut shade throughout the home’s first floor – an update that helps create a smoothly coordinated flow from room to room. They also widened the opening between the rooms, replaced the Pella sink window, and added owner-supplied cabinet hardware.
Two bathrooms also received a new look by picking up the new color scheme chosen by the owners. First, the powder room: with a spacious new vanity cabinet built to match the kitchen’s style, new paint, and sink fixtures, it’s now a bright and cheerful space. We added a new Kohler sink in their popular Caxton rectangle style, enhanced by the line’s Hint Widespread faucet. The countertop shows off the same Hanstone Montauk quartz that we saw in the kitchen.
Up on the second floor, the hall bath benefitted from updated colors and fixtures. First, Benjamin Moore’s Silver Satin paint created a gentle wash of grey, giving the space a sharp new background to work with. From there, our team built on the homeowner’s new color scheme choices – installing new Woodharbor Breeze cabinets with a Sea Clay finish, topped with a Montauk Quartz countertop.
The tub-shower got a total makeover – hard to believe this is the same bathroom, isn’t it? Here are the ingredients to this fantastic new look: Replacing the tub with a new Sterling Ensemble unit, adding chic new Kohler Pitch faucets and fixtures, installing a new inset, and enclosing the new additions with Mayfair Volakas Grigio glazed porcelain 12×24 tile – set off with a Silverado grout color. On the bathroom floor: new Stoneways Sky 12×24 with Dove Gray grout – it’s a slightly darker grey that’s eminently practical for bathrooms.
