Master Bathroom Remodel Reveal
At J&J Construction we have had the pleasure of helping countless families transform their living spaces into functional and beautiful rooms that work well for them. One of the most highly sought after renovations is the master bathroom. Families are replacing out-of-date bathrooms with more modern ones including luxurious walk-in showers and unique finishes.
Take notice that prior to the renovation, this bathroom offered dated track lighting and an open area above the shower and door that actually opened to the master bedroom! This certainly did not provide privacy or function. When a bathroom includes a large soaker tub with surrounding tub deck, we often recommend replacing it with an oversized walk-in shower. The tub decks take up so much wasted space, not to mention as homeowners age, provides a risk factor. A walk-in shower is more suitable and desirable. Let’s take a closer look at this charming remodel.
When you first step foot into this master bathroom space you’ll notice Birchwood cabinets in a white semi-gloss finish and the ever-popular Osage door style. Birch is a lovely light-colored wood option with a uniform closed grain and also happens to have a strong waterproof composition. The countertop is an upgraded Hanstone Quartz stone in Fusion. This countertop selection serves as one focal point in this space. The shades of gray and warm whites compliment any color palette. Kohler furnished the rectangular sink and the centerset vanity faucet.
Prior to renovation, the window above the bathtub was rotting. We see this time and time again during bathroom renovations. It’s important to hire professionals to ensure proper construction and sealing to avoid leaks and rot or mold. The homeowner looked forward to replacing that window and decided to truly make it a centerpiece by using a striking blue tile that was gifted to her from a friend as a border. In addition to using the tile as the window border, we also used it in the shower niche. What a special and gorgeous accent finish. We just love a sentimental remodel component!
We’ve installed a Kohler Highline Comfort Height toilet in “Tall”, which is approximately 2.5 inches taller than their standard comfort height toilet, in order to accommodate our taller homeowners and allow for easier usage. With its clean, simple design and efficient performance, this water-conserving toilet combines style and function and fits nicely into this bathroom design.
Additionally, we framed in the open space above the door and shower in order to close off the bathroom from the master bedroom for much needed privacy.
In place of their old shower we’ve created a new linen cabinet with ample storage. Their brand new walk-in shower will serve them well as they age in place thanks to grab bars by Moen, 24” and 30” chrome towel bars inside the shower, and a tall bench seat. We’ve upgraded the shower glass to ½ inch and included a Kohler handheld faucet set raised to a higher than standard height. The niche is 12×18 finished with the same stunning tile used for the window border, and shower handle and trim are in a standard chrome finish.
The main floor boasts 12×24 porcelain Regency tiles in Carbon, while the shower floor offers 2×2 tiles in Chadwick White. These tiles are versatile and can be used in other areas of the home as well. The Regency tiles not only elevate this bathroom space, but could do the same for a kitchen as well. Homeowners will have plenty of light with new can lights over the shower that highlight the 12×24 shower wall tiles in Frieze White. These wall tiles are matte/natural, and are easy to maintain.
We must not forget to mention the final touches and accessories that helped tie this space together to make it one cohesive remodel. Track lighting was replaced with a Hunter Lexi 3-light fixture, supplied by the homeowner, and a 24×30 beveled frameless mirror sits on the wall above the vanity. Paint selected was Benjamin Moore Watercolor, and wall accessories include towel bars, rings and toilet roll holder from the Kohler Devonshire collection.
We know the weather outside this time of year can be a bit frightful, but winter is the perfect time for an indoor renovation. Is your bathroom due for a makeover?
