Here are hot kitchen trends to notice right now:

Hot Kitchen Trends to Notice Now

1. Eco-chic: When it comes to kitchen design, homeowners, particularly Gen Zers, are insisting on sustainability. Some of the most important considerations include using sustainable materials like recycled pieces, investing in energy-efficient appliances, enhancing ventilation, and repurposing items whenever possible.

2. Recessed Lighting: Ask any homeowner what they wish they had more of in their kitchen spaces, and the majority will say, “more lighting”. We constantly receive requests to add recessed lights in our kitchen remodels. After all, not only is this the room families often spend most of their time in, but it’s where food is prepared and enjoyed. Recessed lighting is critical, offers a clean look, and can also highlight certain areas or features for visual interest.

3. Concealed Storage: With the right design, even the smallest kitchen can offer smart storage solutions. Toe-kick drawers, tip-out trays, rollout drawers and even pull-out cutting boards offer families organization without taking up valuable counter space or creating an eyesore. We could all use hidden drawers for cooking utensils and small kitchen items. Hide small appliances like toasters and blenders behind a panel that matches your cabinets and you’ll create a seamless, polished look that will make your dinner guests wonder how you keep your space so clean.

4. Subdued Countertop: As designers opt for bolder colors in cabinetry and rich wood stains, they are balancing that out with more subdued countertops. While it used to be common to go to a site and select a slab of stone with intricate patterns in dark hues, we’re seeing more understated and clean countertops, primarily in quartz. Homeowners are looking for an organic and earthy aesthetic in kitchens, and simplicity will help contribute to that vibe. Save the busy pattern and instead consider something in a more muted tone.

5. Mixed Metals: We’re here to tell you that not only is it okay to mix metal, it’s actually encouraged. Want a simple way to spice up your kitchen? Switch out hardware and/or light fixtures and have fun with it. Brass, silver, copper–whatever catches your eye can have a place in your kitchen. In fact, it’s a way to add color to an otherwise neutral room. Think about mixing finishes as well. For example, use both shiny and aged copper accents to bring in warmth and visual appeal.

6. Colored Cabinets: Designers are thinking beyond white and gray and pushing homeowners to consider pops of color in their cabinetry. Consider your cabinetry color first and then plan the rest of your kitchen design from that selection. Shades of blues and greens are particularly hot right now. Have an all-white kitchen but don’t want to paint every cabinet? Opt to paint your island, which updates your space without a total renovation.

7. Lower Drawers: Lower drawers are becoming a must-have in kitchens for many reasons. Not only do they provide more usable storage (thank you gliding drawers!), but they make it simpler for the littlest members of the family to grab needed items. Deeper lower drawers are the ideal storage location for pots, pans, and larger items used frequently. Organization and accessibility? Check.

8. Large Island: Is there anyone out there who doesn’t want a larger kitchen island? It’s the gathering place for families big and small, and the central location for guests to congregate. It’s where cookie dough gets rolled out and rushed  breakfast conversations take place before school. More homeowners are ditching their formal dining rooms and requesting larger island spaces for dining and entertaining. This trend isn’t going anywhere. In fact, as more kitchen renovations happen, we expect to see even double islands in open concept kitchens.

9. Backless Stoves: Backless stoves are going to continue to take center stage in 2023. Designers and homeowners aim to achieve that seamless look and that translates to their range as well. Add a stone slab backsplash and you’ll instantly elevate your space. Backless stoves offer the modern, fresh look that we’re craving right now. Bonus: they’re easier to install and appear to slide into a custom built space.

10. Natural Wood: Cabinet colors are an ever-evolving trend. From avocado green to cherry wood to white to greens and blues, keeping up can be difficult. But don’t grab your paintbrush just yet because natural wood-tone cabinets are becoming increasingly popular. Whether it’s light, medium, or dark wood, keeping it natural allows kitchens to have that organic look. Natural wood is timeless, and raw wood grain is easy to style, beautiful, and classic. Try a honey-colored wood cabinet for a modern kitchen look you’ll love for years.
